If this is your first time, make sure the audience is friendly

Choose a group of like-minded friends, workers, students, family or neighbors.

Practice

Practice giving the presentation several times. Tape it, if you can, and listen to it. Slow down. Most presentations are delivered too quickly.

Make sure the equipment is there and ready

If you are giving the “At The Tipping Point” power point presentation, ask for an LCD projector, a lap top, and a screen. Bring the PPP with you on a floppy, CD, and flash drive. You don’t know what equipment they use.  Download At The Tipping Point PowerPoint Presentation

Get there early so that you can test the equipment or set up

Don’t spend presentation time setting up the equipment. Do this before.

You will need an introduction

E-mail, fax, or mail your name and two sentences about who you are to the person inviting you to speak well before the talk. Bring a copy of it in case the person introducing you forgets to bring it.

Ask for 20 minutes and stick to 20 minutes

Do not go over your allotted time scheduled. If you are nervous with questions, talk until the end of your allotted time. Let the audience know that you will be around after the meeting (if that’s true) and be available for questions then.

Mention the website

www.healthcareforalltexas.org or www.hcfat.org.

List 3 ways people can help

This is very important. People will want to do something after your talk!

1. Go to the website and Vote Your Support for TIP. Get informed about H.R. 676.
2. Contact your elected representative.
3. Make a donation to Health Care for All Texas.

“For Whom The Bell Tolls”

To commemorate the 18,000 Americans who die every year because they are uninsured, we are recruiting faith organizations to toll bells for every unnecessary death. If you are a congregation or a member of a congregation interested in participating (with or without a bell), please contact us.

Speakers Training

Health Care for All Texas is involved in on-going “train-the-trainer” workshops. Contact your local chapter below for more information about workshops in your area.
